A week of ups and downs ……..

…… so last weekend, we went off to see lovely friends in Scotland. I wasn’t looking forward to six hours on the train but I had my handwritten pattern, computerised version and knitting to keep me busy. I was so happy that I finally managed to finish charting it, making a few amendments from the handwritten chart and charting the intarsia.

I got some lovely yarn from a fabulous dyer.

So all in all, it was shaping up to be an awesome week ……….. then disaster struck.

My phone updated with the latest Android software and my 189 individual charted pattern rows simply disappeared into the ether 😯😯😐

After ummming and ahhhhhhing, I ripped off the socks (rather than trying to figure out each row again, as some had changed from the handwritten notes)

So here it is, ready to go again

Alongside a bout of conjunctivitis, it’s not been a great end to the week so here’s hoping next week is better.

I’ll be dying for the Dr Who yarn box, posting out the Star Wars Pre-release sign ups yarn and hopefully get some extra yarn in soak for the Etsy shop.

Yarn Boxes

Our first “May the Fourth” yarn box was a huge success and sold out quicker than I had anticipated.

Below is the goodies that everybody received

The main yarn was “Princess Leia” on a gold sparkle sock base with a Yoda-inspired “Yarn I am, Knit you must”. Both will be released for general sale on 21st May, however, I have have a pre-release sign up form here (closing 12th May). For those who sign up, your yarn will be posted on the release date (subject to payment of invoice) so no waiting around.

Finally. ………..

…….. I have an up and running blog! Now to remember to keep it updated.

So my first post is all about my new Dr Who inspired cable socks. The pattern is designed to tell the story of the Dr and Rose’s love, intertwining until their separation at Doomsday, the introduction of Donna intertwining with both the Doctor and Rose in “Turn Left”.

The cables culminate in “Journey’s End” with part of Donna and the Doctor’s cables forming the meta-crisis Doctor who entwines with Rose culminating in a cabled heart with the Doctor’s cable splitting to finish with “11”.

This is hopefully the first in a series of Dr Who inspired socks. The prototype probably needs some minor adjustments but I was too impatient to unravel them again so I’ve dyed some “Tardis Blue” yarn and started testing the handwritten pattern and converting it to a computerised version.

Sadly, I haven’t yet found design software that incorporates all of the cable symbols I need so I’m working on a colour coded Excel spreadsheet.

I hope it’ll be ready for my testers in a week or two with general release in my Etsy shop. The Etsy shop has all of my latest colourways for sale, together with  an opportunity for custom colourways to order.
